I Replaced Running with Strength Training

My whole life, I thought that running was the only legitimate exercise and the best thing I could do to keep myself fit and healthy. Since I joined Fit House three years ago, I haven’t run more than 200 yards. I started by replacing running with three days per week of boot camp, then two days of boot camp plus one day of training per week, and now one day of boot camp and two days of training per week. At first, I was just pleased (and surprised!) that my departure from running didn’t result in me becoming overweight. As my workout strategy evolved, I have watched my body become the fittest it’s ever been and far stronger than I ever imagined I could be. It turns out that while my weight might be the same—or higher—than it was when I was strictly running, I am much leaner, more confident, and am certain that I am far more healthy. I feel better educated and equipped to make decisions regarding nutrition and feel like I know how to sift through fads and unsustainable or inefficient nutrition advice. My husband recently joined me and trains at Fit House once per week and completes programmed workouts three additional times per week, and although he has only been doing this about 6 months, he has definitely never looked better. We are pleased to be setting such a good example for our two children, and both feel confident that we will be strong enough to more fully enjoy their children and maybe even their children’s children!

From Back Pain to Super Strong at 60

I started training a little more than three years ago at the age of 56 1/2 with the encouragement of my wife. She was already training with Chris at Fit House and felt great and thought he could help me. Even though I had never belonged to a gym before, I decided to try it. When I started, I had a lot of issues: blood clots in my left calf, lower back pain, and sciatica. I had been seeing a chiropractor for months with little relief. The first time I trained at Fit House, I was hurting so bad afterwards, I didn’t go back for three weeks. But I did go back. My back was still hurting, and I would literally have to roll off the bench. I eventually stopped going to the chiropractor because it wasn’t helping, and I continued to train. I can’t remember exactly how long it took, but after a while, my back pain and sciatica were gone. I continued to get stronger and stronger. Now, three years later, I am in the best shape of my life, and I am now 60. I can do 6 unassisted pull-ups and deadlift over 225#.

Just being around positive people at Fit House makes me want to do better even when I am not at the gym.  I eat better, I cut down dramatically on alcohol, and I just focus more on my health.

It also helps that my wife and I train together. We feed off each other. I love starting my Saturday mornings working out with my wife at Fit House. For fun, we hike, bike, and walk.  Not only are our minds and body stronger, but it has made our marriage stronger, too. And I have not been back to the chiropractor in three years!

Accountability Gets Results

I have had the pleasure of training with Chris Rombola for over seven years. During this time, I have gotten married and had two wonderful little boys. Over the past seven years, my motivation and commitment outside of training has ebbed and flowed; however, having Chris as a motivator and accountability partner has ensured that, even at my most stressful moments, I still showed up to my twice a week training sessions, which ultimately helped with my stress, overall health, and wellbeing. With my doctor’s approval and Chris’s help and guidance, I was able to continue lifting until forty weeks with both of my pregnancies. This without a doubt helped with my labor and delivery as well as my recovery. Most recently, at four months postpartum, I joined in on Fit House’s New Years Challenge in January, 2017, and I am happy to report that I am down over 20 pounds and am in better shape and at a lower weight than when I got pregnant with my first son. I couldn’t be a bigger believer in this program and am so grateful for the structure and accountability Fit House has provided in my life.

Over 100 Pounds Lost

When I began my fitness journey in June 2018, my aunts, who have been coming to Fit House for 2 years, said there was no one better to help me in my situation. After my initial meeting with Chris, I knew they were right.  His attitude and mindset are infectious. With his help, with Gina’s guidance and reassurance with my diet plan, and with all the other trainers who have helped me so far, my determination has reached levels I didn’t know were possible. In the 8 months I’ve been with Fit House, I’ve lost 125lbs, 15 inches from my waist, and 44 inches overall. Not only do I look forward to getting to the gym each day for my workout, I know that the workouts Chris has designed are setting me up for future success. I couldn’t be happier with my experience, and I look forward to the growth that’s yet to come!

From Disorder to Healthy

I started my journey at Fit House a little over a year ago. It was by far the best decision I have ever made. I have seen nothing but great results. I am healthy. I am full of life. I am recovering. Having an eating disorder and working out are a dangerous combination. I remember being in treatment, looking out the window, wondering if I’d ever be able to enjoy working out again or if my eating disorder was going to take control and kill me. Fit House has helped me stay present, live in the moment, and be proud of the person looking back at me from the mirror. Of course, I have my days, sometimes weeks; aren’t we all fighting some type of battle? Going 3x a week and having a team who pushes each other, holds each other accountable, and celebrates the small victories is the type of atmosphere I had craved for so many years. I have gone to countless other gyms and had my share of personal trainers, but the workouts just weren’t tailored to the results I wanted to see. Those places, between Long Island and Buffalo, just did not have the motivation or inspiration I needed or wanted. Fit House has the strength training, the continuous workouts, and the true inspiration I’ve been searching for all these years, not to mention amazing trainers. Finally! Chris and Gina have pushed me further than I thought I could go at times. I looked and felt exactly how I wanted to when I got married in October because I stuck to the program I was working through.

I have always been a self-motivated person. I know that I can conquer anything that I put my mind to. I know that I am the the most important part of it all. But to be honest, I couldn’t be more thankful for finding Fit House, for them helping me to continue my journey to keep my life on the amazing track I am on, and to keep me in the healthy shape I want to continue to be in. “At any given moment you have the power to say, this is not how the story is going to end.”

Leaner, Healthier, and Stronger at 50

Leaner, Healthier, and Stronger at 50

I started this year’s Fit House nutrition program to jump start my efforts to look and feel as best I could for my 50th birthday in March. I found the program to be one of the easiest to follow, as it allowed me to eat 5 times a day with snacks. I was not hungry, and I loved the fact that I could still have my dairy, even cheese sticks! I lost 6 pounds in the first week! I really enjoyed combining ingredients from the plan to make great new meals, as I get bored quickly with the same foods. I discovered there really are lots of healthy low-carb options out there.

What I like the most about this plan is that it is not a fad diet. It is a way to learn healthy eating that becomes a lifestyle. I understand more now about how my body processes foods and how to maintain my new healthy eating habits. In the beginning, I journaled my food and had weekly check-ins with Gina so we could discuss my choices and progress. This helped to keep me accountable. I am amazed at how many inches I have lost from everywhere and the happiness I feel getting many comments about how good I am looking. I would highly recommend this nutrition plan to anyone looking for a change. I had never joined a gym before in my life and was scared to leave my comfort zone, but I knew I needed a change. With getting older, I knew things were just going to get worse, as my blood sugar levels were rising to almost diabetic levels. The nutrition program, combined with 3 days of strength training, solved that within a month. My levels are normal and have stayed normal. I am now 40 pounds leaner, healthier, and stronger than I have ever been at age 50! It is possible! I am so glad Fit House came into my life.

Nutrition Challenge Success

I always love a good challenge; I’m a bit competitive! This year, when I did the Fit House Nutrition Challenge, this challenge was different. I was competing to be a better version of myself. I had weekly nutrition check-ins with Gina and positive feedback from Chris while training. One of my very favorite parts of the challenge was the sharing of some super yummy recipes. I lost a few inches all over and managed to lose 11 lbs in the end—while taking two 10-day vacations! It wasn’t always easy but definitely worth it!

I’m a Believer

stacy-testimonial

I felt that the 2019 New Year lifestyle challenge was a good fit for me. I enjoyed the nutrition schedule and workouts that went along with the eating plan. Because I had participated in previous challenges, I questioned whether or not I should participate again. I figured that I would learn even more about nutrition and am really glad that I decided to join. The first e-mail (21 pages) included a specific individual nutrition plan and was filled with tons of info about supplements, recipes, pro tips, good/bad foods, and so much more to assist me in completing the challenge. I learned about the importance of a morning ritual drink, and pre-workout nutrition (which I really didn’t pay much attention to before).

I thought I had the best physical and mental results after this challenge.  The initial carb restriction was not as bad this time as it was in previous challenges, as I think my body knows how to handle it now. The different nutrition phases were easy to follow and incorporate into a busy lifestyle.  I lost weight, so my clothes fit better, I feel stronger overall, and I feel better about long term proper nutrition.  I’m a believer in the Fit House motto, “Get Strong, Live Long”!!!!

Nutrition for Optimal Results

patty-testimonial

I was looking forward to starting the 2019 Lifestyle Nutrition challenge, as I felt my nutrition had gotten away from me a little bit.  I had gained a few pounds and was looking to slim down.  I had participated in Fit House challenges before, so I knew there would be a lot of support from Chris and Gina.  The previous year’s challenge was all about counting macros, which I didn’t mind doing but was hard to sustain long term.  That’s why the 2019 challenge was designed to be more of a lifestyle program that would be easily adaptable beyond the eight weeks of the challenge.

The program was very easy to follow.  Chris and Gina provided me with a personal portion size and meal timing outline, power food list, foods to avoid, portion sizes, and plenty of delicious recipes to try out.  I never felt hungry or restricted at all during the eight-week plan.  Any time I had a question, they were always there with an answer or a solution.  I lost seven pounds and several inches.  I am down a couple more pounds as I continue to follow the plan.  It is not a diet; it is a healthy, nutritious way to fuel your body for optimal results.

From Nervous to Comfortable in My Body

cindy-testimonial

I was extremely nervous to join Fit House and almost didn’t make the commitment after my first meeting with Chris for my complimentary orientation.  I had been interested in strength training for years and had tried a variety of different workouts (mostly cardio based) and diets to try to lose weight on my own.  Through my efforts, I did manage to lose about 25 pounds, but my progress had stalled, so I decided to try a different approach for the remaining 40 pounds I had long aspired to lose.  I’m so happy that I got over my initial fears and made the commitment to myself to join Fit House.  By committing to the workouts and my nutrition plan, I am happy to report I am down 35 pounds since I started in late August 2018 and feel so much more comfortable in my body than I used to.  Before embarking on this journey, I just wanted to be thin; now I want to be strong and active.   I love seeing the weight I lift increase and my body get stronger and stronger.  The nutrition plan was perfect for me, and though these past 9 months haven’t been without challenges, now I love eating this way and can’t imagine going back.  Thank you for all of your guidance and support, Chris and Gina! 🙂
