So why did my Achilles tear? No one will ever know for sure. At this point, I’m only concerned with recovery. I was going to approach this like training for an athletic event. I felt determined and motivated. It was time to go to war.

I heard a gunshot. Then everything went black as I crumbled to the ground. It felt like someone had hit me in the back of the leg with a baseball bat. I had torn my Achilles tendon.
